Lobster Claw Plant

The Lobster Claw Plant (Heliconia rostrata) has large, brightly colored bracts that cluster up a stem. Also called parrot flower and also has tiny flowers covered by the showy bracts. It’s not native to Florida, it’s from Central and South America but grows well in SWFL. Naturally they can grow to 15 feet but in landscapes probably only reached 3 to 6 feet tall.

 Golden Canna

The Golden Canna is a native perennial wetland plant that grows in marshes, wetlands, and savannahs and around the edges of lakes and ponds and usually grows up to 4 feet tall. There are a number of cultivars of golden canna available through the water garden industry. Most of the cultivars are hybrids and usually have pink, red, white, striped, or variegated flowers.
