The Swamp Hibiscus (Scarlet Rose Mallow, Texas Star, Scarlet Hibiscus) has large 6" scarlet pinwheels that are produced throughout the summer and often well into fall. It's quite a site to see one in full bloom in a swamp sharply contrasting with other smaller, less colorful swamp plants. It grows on sturdy stems with finely cut darkly tinged foliage and is a vigorous sun loving perennial which is native to the swampy soils. The stunning red flower attracts a variety of pollinators including hummingbirds, bees and occasionally butterflies.
