The curly tailed lizard is easily recognized by a long banded tail that curls over the back. It got its name because it curls its tail like a scorpion when approached. Found all over the Bahamas and some West Indie Islands and has been introduced into south Florida commonly seen, even in urban areas, but usually near the beach, where they often use rocks for cover. They bury themselves in the sand to sleep at night ad emerge during the day to sun themselves to stimulate their metabolism before hunting insects.
