Swamp Buggy Races are held the first full weekend in November, the last full weekend in January, and the first full weekend of March. The races are a celebration of Florida’s past. Before the airboats, swamp buggies were the solution to getting across the thousands of square miles of Florida swampland. Built by Florida's Everglade hunter's, the inevitable happened when these folks compared trucks. One said the the other "I bet mine's faster than yours!" and the sport was created. This isn't what comes to mind when people think of Naples, the elegant, upscale town where people come to play golf, dine in fine restaurants, go boating in the Gulf of Mexico, toast the sunset, and stroll the beach. There's nothing elegant about the Swamp Buggy Races in Naples and that's why I love them. They’re just plain old fun, wet, noisy and totally out of place in this elegant city.
